Why do I get “The Look” even from some in my own family when I get garbed for a ride? It wasn’t so bad when it was just a motorcycle helmet, eye wear, leather gloves, and motorcycle boots but once I put on the leather chaps that seemed to be the proverbial straw. I don’t usually wear chaps only when the weather conditions warrant, like in the early spring and early fall. They just make for a more comfortable ride against the cooler seasonal elements. I get the “who or what does he think he is” look. Like I’m tring to be something I’m not. I guess I can understand somewhat because I might have a bit of the same attitude when I see some my nomally mild mannered middle aged plus friends take it even another step with the bandana in lieu of a helmet. Mild mannered business guy by weekday and Son of Anarchy by weekend. Riding my Victory Kingpin is my hobby, passion and theropy. What am I supposed to wear for protection that would get the non-enthusiast approval? Leather motorcycle jackets, vests, half-helmets, gloves, leather chaps and pants and motorcycle boots are the style when it comes to riding an American Cruiser but more than that its safety, comfort and protection. Maybe if it were all white leather or some pastel instead of black. Na, I’d get even more “LOOKS!” Wait until they see my skull mask!!
