xu228-insane-clowns-1.jpgAs I sit here today it is currently snowing again in Pennsylvania.  This is not helping, as my imaginings are of the approaching riding season.  Warm weather can’t get here fast enough.

With the forthcoming motorcycle riding season being just over horizon I know enthusiasts will be shopping for new motorcycle safety gear. Motorcycle helmets should be the first thing on their brains (pun intended) if they want to keep their gray matter intact.

There is no doubt that full face helmets provide the ultimate in protection but during the summer months they are ridiculously suffocating.  Sure, they’ve made great strides in ventilation technology but you’ve got to moving for the vents to work.  There is no wonder why half helmets are so popular.

My HJC helmet is getting a little long in the tooth so I’ve been sampling several brands of half helmets lately.  I’ve really noticed the effort some manufacturers have placed on weight and artistic design.  I really like the selection that Outlaw helmets offers. Man, you can get just about anything these days.

What I like about the Outlaw helmets, besides the selection of artwork, is they are really light and have great padding.  Another feature I like is the screwed in visor.  My old helmet has the snap button visor and it makes this annoying rattling noise at speed.  Outlaw solved that!  They also offer some designs with vents but I’m not sure they’re even necessary on half helmets.  I’ve got them on my old helmet and I never could tell if they worked.

I know for years a popular helmet has been the WWII German Helmet novelty design but they are mostly just a shell, not DOT-approved and really don’t offer protection.  They’re just designed to keep LE (Law Enforcement) off your tail.  Outlaw also has a great line of WWII German Army style helmets that sport a DOT-approved label and come in about six or seven colors including pink for the ladies and chrome too.

The only draw back that I found was that I think the Outlaw line runs a little small.  I normally take a size Large but these helmets seemed to really fit tightly.  I know a new helmet should fit tight but there is no way the padding is going to compress that much upon break-in.  Even the X-Large fit snuggly, so I’m moving up a size in the Outlaw brand.

Oh, I forgot to mention another great feature. Well, maybe not a feature, but benefit for sure, is their prices.  They’re priced a good 25 to 30 percent below other brands and really offer the best selection and designs.  That is something I think is important these days.

Well, if you are so inclined to wear a motorcycle helmet or the law requires one, I think you’ll like the Outlaw brand.  Just size it up one.
