As it is seen so often, motorcycles fall into accidents quite often because they are basically unstable vehicles. So when you ride a motorcycle make sure that you have enough protective gear.
However with all updated technology and engineering, protective gears are available that will ensure that you have a smooth sail while on a motorcycle. A motorcycle ride is now much less dangerous.
In most countries it is a legal offence to be traveling without protective gear. It is for your own protection so wear them while motorcycling. The gear comprises of helmets, jackets, pants, gloves and boots. So, more or less every inch of your body will be protected in case of minor accidents.
However, the most popular gears are the motorcycle jackets. Ross Langlitz of Portland made the American motorcycle jacket, with epaulets and a diagonal zipper, in 1946. It became a rage later as Marlon Brando sported it in ‘The Wild One’.
Apart from the safety function they make a style statement as well. While the jackets are made of leather these days nylon and Kevlar are also becoming increasingly popular. They are tough and give good protection from jerky skids. The toughness of the jackets is owed to the quality of the material used. It is tough and thick. Also the jackets have padded areas near the spine shoulder and elbow named ‘CE rating armor’. These ensure proper protection.
There are several kinds of jackets available these days. You will definitely be spoilt for choice. However, no matter what brand you purchase, make sure they contain certain specific features that are the mark of a good functional jacket. Check for Hypertex, Cuff vent system and Quick-dry. The first ensures that you are protected from abrasions. The second makes sure that proper air circulation takes place. The third makes the jacket waterproof and does not get discolored by anything.
The jackets also hold as a strong shield in unpredictable weather. They offer sure protection against rain, snow and hailstorms and other difficult conditions.
One kind of jackets available is of course the textile motorcycle jackets. The leather jackets are too heavy and do not have proper air circulation. But these jackets are far lighter in weight and thus manageable. However they are not very safe since they are too light and thin but if you can manage a better-modified textile jacket that is very useful.
Moreover these jackets also double up very well as casual hip-hop outfits. While these jackets give you protection, they are also easier and cheaper to maintain. However the amount of wear and tear they can sustain is a question.
Along with the jackets also remember to buy the helmets and other protection gear as well. Please follow traffic and driving laws. And keep in touch with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles of the locality where you are. Have a safe and pleasant ride
