When people think of motorcycles, often there is a generic perception of danger and risk, but in truth, motorcycles are no more dangerous than automobiles. However, just like wearing a seatbelt in a car, it’s important to take the necessary safety precautions when riding a motorcycle. Motorcycle helmets are essential; in most places around the world it’s illegal to ride a motorcycle without a helmet. It’s also a good idea to wear a sturdy leather jacket to protect you from the wind chill, and to protect your arms and chest should you be in an accident.
Most motorcycle safety relates to your apparel, however, it’s also important to observe the general rules of the road, and be aware that it’s difficult for some automobile drivers to see motorcyclists. In addition, in areas of the country with aggressive drivers, a motorcyclist can find it difficult to merge or encourage other drivers to allow you to pass.
