Packing for a Road Trip

roadtrip.jpg  I tend to travel pretty light when I take my motorcycle out for an extended trip. After all, if I wanted to bring everything including the kitchen sink with me, I’d drive an RV instead of a hog. Usually two motorcycle saddlebags are enough to hold everything I need for a week.

My motorcycle saddlebags checklist includes extra money, a first aid kit, extra sunglasses, two spare t-shirts, and one spare pair of pants. If it’s getting cooler out I might also pack a sweatshirt. I carry a small, efficient sleeping bag so I can camp out wherever I like. I don’t worry too much about food as I typically stop at diners along the way; a few power bars and a water bottle suffice.

2010-pokerun-3-in-1-mesh-jacket-black.jpg  Motorcycle riding jackets are an important component of keeping riders safe. That being said, not all jackets are created equal. The mesh jacket is designed for hot weather. It allows for greater air flow and usually includes elbow, back, and shield armor.

Textile jackets provide more protection and are ideal for cool weather riding. Textile jackets are waterproof and windproof. Like the mesh jacket, textile jackets typically come with elbow and shoulder armor. If you can bear the heat, it’s preferable to select one of your textile motorcycle riding jackets whenever you go out riding.
