Saddlebags have been around since, well, saddles. The concept is easy to grasp, with bags hanging over the sides of a bike’s tail section. Saddlebags are available in both hard and soft designs. Panniers on a motorcycle refer to hard bags, often metal and box-shaped, which are fitted for hard-core touring duties.
Although the Midwest and Northeast are currently being gripped by (hopefully) the last gasp of winter the annual southern biker pilgrimages are here. It’s a tough ride until you get to North Carolina and even then I wouldn’t say it’s comfortable but thankfully bearable. Any bikers riding the distance are certainly hardy. Even Daytona is unpleasantly cool at night and the moist ocean breeze during the day chills you to the bone so you’ll definitely need the proper riding gear. Like most motorcycle enthusiasts I’m really getting anxious for the warm sunny days that are bound to eventually get here. We’ve still got the shoulder season to get through too. That’s the time of year that it is too cold in the morning but can get too hot in the afternoon. I know, most people call that spring and fall but none-the-less it is the time of year that poses an apparel dilemma for motorcycle riders.
