leather motorcycle jackets

If you’re going to ride a motorcycle, it’s imperative that you do so in a smart and prepared way. To that end, before you ever venture to the freeway or main roads, make sure that you’re fully able to control the bike. If you’re still shaky, it’s not the best idea to commute with semis yet. You should also have all the necessary motorcycle apparel. This includes safety gear as well as more general clothing needs.

While there are many necessary items, you never want to forget your leather motorcycle jackets. This will protect you from minor scrapes and bruises if you take a tumble at a very low speed. These kinds of jackets will also keep you warm in rain, cold, or other adverse weather conditions. And while it should only be a secondary reason for selecting a piece of motorcycle apparel, you can also find many options that are extremely stylish and attractive.

motorcycle riding jackets

Three years ago, my wife and I retired and decided to take a cross-country excursion on my motorcycle. It had been awhile since we had hit the open road, so we had to update our wardrobe a bit. This included purchasing motorcycle riding jackets and new riding gloves.

For two months we traveled all over the US, and it was certainly one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives. I can confidently say that I visited many places I never thought I would—or even knew existed. Now we have decided to make the motorcycle journey a tradition and embark on one every other year.

Motorcycle Vest

While everyone wants to look stylish on their bike, safety is always the number one priority. Wearing a motorcycle jacket is a great way to protect yourself from road burn in the event of a crash, but during the scorching summer months a leather jacket can be too much. For these hot times, you need an alternative to the traditional jacket that will still keep you safe.

A leather motorcycle vest is a stylish alternative that is still practical on the bike. Many come with embroidered designs to set you apart from the crowd. You can find options with inner and outer pockets, and even models that include armor for extra protection.

Benefits of Wearing a Motorcycle Jacket

Motorcycle jackets are for a lot more than just looking cool while on the road, they also offer superior protection from the elements.  Most motorcyclists prefer to wear leather jackets because, as we all know, motorcyclists are exposed to the outdoors unlike motorists.  Wearing a motorcycle jacket protects from the cold (with the wind chill, this can be significant even in warmer weather), and also helps the motorcyclist endure through rain and other adverse weather conditions.  When purchasing a motorcycle jacket, it’s important to not skimp on cost.  Motorcycle jackets with poor stitching or those that use low quality leather will not last, while a motorcycle jacket made from quality materials and sewn by a professional can last for decades.  In fact, there are quite a number of motorcyclists that will wear one motorcycle jacket for a lifetime without even a single thought of replacing it.

Motorcycle jackets can become just as much a part of the motorcyclist as their motorcycle.  Make sure to take good of a motorcycle jacket, and it will in turn take good care of the rider for several years to come!

menwomenmotorcyclejackets.jpgMotorcycle Clothing is as much a part of a ride as your motorcycle. Motorcycle gear has a minefield of clever marketing and hype. Buried somewhere underneath all the marketing hoopla are some excellent products. When buying motorcycle gear where do you start? How do you make informed decisions on what motorcycle gear is best for you?

The basics…

Why do you wear motorcycle clothing in the first place? For most, the answer is obvious; it is purely a safety issue. In Europe, any safety clothing, whatever its use, has to be certified as suited for its intended purpose by a battery of test carried out by laboratories that are accredited to do so. If they pass, they may be sold bearing the CE mark. As a result of testing and the associated research it is clear that well made motorcycle clothing helps lessen the severity of injuries in an ill-fated event of a crash. cf472-black-gray-3.jpgYour motorcycling apparel choices should consider comfort and protection from not only crashes but the everyday challenges of riding a motorcycle.

The right gear makes motorcycling safer and more comfortable through a wide range of conditions. Yet apparel-buying decision may be based on little more than what the wearer sees while standing in front a mirror. Consider a riding jacket. Most riders buy on style, but a real riding jacket should do much more than look good. With a bit of augmentation (layering), it should actually increase your comfort throughout the range of temperatures you ride in, serve your needs on the road, prevent damage to your machine, ward of gravel and bugs, and on that day when something goes wrong, provide significant protection from abrasion and even impact. That’s the difference between a motorcycle jacket, and good-looking but functionally empty jacket. Read the rest of this entry »
