If you’re going to ride a motorcycle, it’s imperative that you do so in a smart and prepared way. To that end, before you ever venture to the freeway or main roads, make sure that you’re fully able to control the bike. If you’re still shaky, it’s not the best idea to commute with semis yet. You should also have all the necessary motorcycle apparel. This includes safety gear as well as more general clothing needs.

While there are many necessary items, you never want to forget your leather motorcycle jackets. This will protect you from minor scrapes and bruises if you take a tumble at a very low speed. These kinds of jackets will also keep you warm in rain, cold, or other adverse weather conditions. And while it should only be a secondary reason for selecting a piece of motorcycle apparel, you can also find many options that are extremely stylish and attractive.

Beat the Heat on Your Bike

During the summer months, particularly in the South and Midwest, the prospect of wearing a leather motorcycle jacket is none too appealing. With the sun blazing down and the pavement radiating heat, you hardly need an extra layer of insulation. But as you probably are aware, a leather jacket isn’t worn purely for warmth.

In the event of a crash, the jacket serves as a critical buffer between you and the pavement. So when the mercury starts to rise, nixing the jacket altogether probably isn’t the best M.O. I simply remove the sleeves—figuratively, of course. For the summertime, I keep a couple of motorcycle vests on hand to protect my torso when I fall. And while a vest may not offer the same protection as jacket, it’s certainly better than nothing.

Road Tripping Across the USA

Ever since the day I bought my Harley Davidson motorcycle, I’ve dreamed of taking a cross-country bike trip. All the books I’ve read and movies I’ve seen have convinced me that long-distance road trips are an integral part of the American Dream. I had never been to the American Southwest, but the photography capturing the region’s natural splendor seemed endlessly appealing.

Then, at the end of summer, I sat down and worked through the logistics of the trip - the fuel costs, the time I would need to get off from work and so on. I informed a friend in California that his house would be the final destination for the trip, and I went online to find a motorcycle luggage set. By packing light, I managed to fit most of my gear and provisions in the Xelement saddlebags.

Atypical Mother’s Day Gifts

For the last 20 years, she has been an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast, traveling to motorcycle shows around the country in her free time. Whether it’s Christmas or her birthday, motorcycle gear and accessories are the only items ever found on her list.

For this Mother’s Day, she expressed a need for a new motorcycle vest. My siblings and I decided to look online for the best deals on womens leather vests and pool our resources to get a premium model. Fortunately, we were able to find one well under our budget, so we were able to afford a few other peripherals as well.

motor cycle gear

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been taking advantage of the picturesque weather by riding my motorcycle at every opportunity. In the Pacific Northwest, patches of fair weather are few and far between, so I try to pack in as much biking as possible while the sun is shining. Having not ridden my bike sense last fall, I neglected to realize that much of my motor cycle gear was in a sorry state.

My leather jacket was missing several of the snaps and a pair of huge holes had developed one of my saddlebags. Luckily, I squirreled away some money during the winter, so I have the means to make a few much-needed upgrades. The past few days I have been scouring the internet to find the best deals, and I’ve been fortunate enough to stumble upon a site that has everything I need at discount prices.

I would bet my life that my beloved Aunt Joan has never taken a ride on a motorcycle in her life. Still, you’d never know it from looking at her. She spent the first part of her adult life working in retail at a Harley-Davidson store, and naturally she made many friends there. I’ve met enough of her old customers and buddies to recognize that bikers often get a bad rap. Most of them are very nice once you get to know them.

It should come as no surprise that Joan started hanging around in biker circles, occasionally even riding in sidecars with her friends. She has been dressing the part ever since I can remember, and it seems that she buys at least one pair of womens motorcycle chaps online each and every year. Leather is such a versatile material that it can be worn comfortably and confidently in any casual situation.

An American Rite of Passage

It’s hard to trace the precise roots of the American road trip, but no doubt the movie “Easy Rider” played some part. That tale of two friends traveling the country together and taking in the sights and sounds of life on the road made a profound impact on an entire generation. These days, touring the country on a motorcycle is practically a rite of passage for adventurous types.

In my experience, there’s no better biking destination than the American Southwest, where the visual contrast of mountains and desert is spectacular to say the least. I would recommend bringing along some sizable saddlebags motorcycle with extra water and other supplies. The desert is boiling hot for much of the year, so it’s nice to be able to strip down to a leather biker vest when a leather jacket feels stifling

Cycling South of the Border

Now that the weather is beginning heat up, I have begun preparing for annual rides this summer. Every year I save up all of my vacation time and sick days for a couple of excursions on my motorcycle. This year I am consolidating my typical two to three day sojourns into one grand expedition south of the border to explore Central America.

Usually the motorcycle gear I have is sufficient for the trip, but this year I know that I am going to need to invest in a few essential items. One thing that is noticeably lacking from my wardrobe is a quality motorcycle vest. When I am in the tropical climate of Central America, I know that motorcycle leather vests are going to be a must, as I won’t be able to bear the heat of a full jacket.

Essential Cyclegear

The investment in your motorcycle itself is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to expenditures related to your vehicle. In addition to your lease, you are also going to have insurance payments and a sizeable amount of cyclegear to invest in. While many pieces of motorcycle clothing and paraphernalia are superfluous, there are some mainstays that every rider should have.

First and foremost is the motorcycle helmet. Not only is this piece of equipment imperative for your safety, but in many states it is illegal to ride without one. While not mandatory, it is advisable to invest in gloves, boots and a motorcycle jacket as well, as they will make the ride more comfortable and provide extra protection in the event of a crash.

While a motorcycle in itself certainly reflects something of the rider’s personality, having other cyclegear that highlights your idiosyncratic qualities should also be a priority. Many leather jacket and chaps have a solid, plain design, which is anything but expressive. One of the best accessories to add personal flair with is your helmet.

There is a litany of novelty motorcycle helmets that feature stylish designs without sacrificing quality. You can find a helmet with virtually any theme—from skulls and crossbones to the Marine Corp. symbol. Of course, safety should always be the highest priority, so be sure that is meets basic requirements.
